Chilton/Autauga Storm Intensifying…Becoming Severe
The good news is the first storm pulsed quickly to become severe, but just as quickly started to collapse. It is still producing tremendous rains just NE of Lineville and has put down a lot of lightning.
There is less wind shear today, so the storms will not be as organized. While they will still produce rain, lightning, some hail and even damaging winds, they will likely not be long-lived like yesterday.
The slow movement is indicative of the less dynamic atmosphere, and could lead to heavier rainfall amounts.
We are monitoring the storm in the Verbena area of Chilton County. It is intensifying. It is moving WSW and is quickly becoming severe. It now shows hail. It will be crossing I-65 south of Clanton.
New storm forming in Etowah County southeast of Altoona.
Storms are forming in the moisture axis that extends along the I-65 corridor in South Alabama up the I-85 corridor up into Northeast Alabama around Gadsden. They will continue to fire through the afternoon and will be prone to intensify quite rapidly.
