Severe Weather Update
The strongest storm in the entire state of Alabama at 7:45 tonight was over Cherokee County in NE Alabama. It was moving toward the NW.
NWS/Birmingham has extended the Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Cherokee County until 8:15. The storm could still produce penny-size hail and winds over 60. It was about 6 miles SE of Centre and moving NW at 23. The severe thunderstorm should move across Centre and to 6 miles SW of Cedar Bluff by 8:00 p.m. then on toward Leesburg and Sand Rock.
At 7:15 p.m., hail the size of pennies was reported by the EMA 9 miles NE of Spring Garden. At 7:40 p.m., a roof was blown off a mobile home on Highway 273 3 miles NE of Leesburg.
Because of those same thunderstorms, the NWS has issued a Significant Weather Alert for DeKalb County until 8:30.
