Late Evening Look…
Interesting night…
A long line of storms moved southeastward across North Alabama this afternoon and into Central Alabama this evening, weakening as it went. It gusted out over northern Jefferson County, laying down a pronounced outflow boundary.
A group of storms refired over eastern parts of the county a short time later and these are holding together late tonight as they move southeast. Hevay ain continues along I-20 between Pell City and Moody south to near VIncent and Harpersville. Moderate rain extends back over Northeast Jefferson County into Blount and Cullman Counties.
Meanwhile, storms are intensifying over Northeast Mississippi and the northwest corner of Alabama. And more storms are firing over West Central sections, over Pickens, SW Tuscaloosa and northern Greene Counties. A strong storm has formed over I-50 on the Alabama/Mississippi border between Meridian and Livingston.
Many folks have seen over an inch of rain tonight. Only 0.31 inches here in South Trussville. JB got 0.78 with moderate rain still falling. Joe Spears in Morris picked up 1.74 inches. An earlier report from Hayden indicated 1.40 and still raining.
This afternoon and evening’s activity has been caused by an upper level disturbance that is weakening. It should slolwy diminish as it moves southeast. Another disturbance is causing the NW Alabama activity. It will be interesting to see if it holds together through the overnight. If it does, it will mean another round of rain and storms after midnight. No severe weather expected.
More storms should fire on Tuesday with a warm, moist airmass and old boundaries left lying around from today and tonight’s storms.
