Mid Afternoon in Alabama
If you live over in the western half of the state, most of the rain had ended at midafternoon. However, from near Huntsville to just east of Birmingham to near Clanton and Montgomery eastward, the rain was still coming down.
The more extensive and heavier showers were over East/Central Alabama, where it was still pouring.
Some good news from South Alabama. The National Weather Service canceled the Tornado Watch shortly after 3:00 p.m. that was in effect in South Alabama, NW Florida and SE Mississippi.
We want to mention a few more rain amounts that were not reported earlier:
1.81 Moody
1.38 Springville/Simmons Mountain
2.25 Calera (just south of Shelby County Airport)
2.14 Marion
1.31 SE Trussville
0.50 Centre
1.89 Riverchase (ABC 33/40 Weather Office)
We may wait until after 7:00 p.m. to post an updated thorough list of rain reports. All of the hourly reporting stations give their totals then. Please scroll down to some earlier posts for a lot of rain amounts.
Cloud cover still exists quite a ways to the west of Alabama, so do not look for instant clearing. There may even be some clouds hanging around like a pest early tomorrow morning, but eventually they should give way to some afternoon sunshine.
One thing for sure: you won’t hear of any dust devils or blowing dust in this part of the country any time soon. Check out these storm total rain amounts:
8.78 inches Baton Rouge
13.78 on the NW side of Shreveport
