Gravity Wave Watch

| May 15, 2008 @ 2:25 pm | 19 Replies

There are some indications that a gravity wave has developed on the back edge of the precipitation area, and is now moving through western Jefferson County, and maybe parts of Blount, Shelby, and Bibb Counties.

Pressures have fallen about 2 mb in one hour behind the rain, at stations north and west of BHM. Radar also indicates a band of outbound winds approaching BHM. These winds should be out of the southeast.

Winds could gust up to 40 mph or more, possibly downing a few trees. This event is similar, though probably not as strong, as the one on December 20.
