A Good, Soaking Rain
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…
What a great rain event for Alabama… scroll down for rain reports from J.B. Here at the ABC 33/40 studio in Riverchase, we now have 1.89″.
The air over North Alabama is cool and stable, and no severe weather is expected north of U.S. 80. The severe weather threat for the rest of the afternoon will be confined to the southeast corner of the state. There have been tornado warnings for some South Alabama counties this afternoon, but I do not see any reports of significant damage. The Birmingham NWS did report damage on a tornado warning, but this message was received from Pike County EMA:
“Here’s a clarification…..after talking with the Sheriff’s dept, they did have someone call in to report a “funnel cloud” OVER co rd 2246 – there have been absolutely no reports of damage….thanks”
THE DAYS AHEAD: The rain will diminish from west to east early tonight. I still think tomorrow will be generally dry for the northern half of Alabama, there could be a shower somewhere south of Montgomery, but even there those showers will most likely be hard to find.
The weekend looks very nice, with partly to mostly sunny days and fair nights. Looks like temperatures will peak in the upper 70s both days.
NEXT WEEK: The GFS continues to give us a different look on just about every run; the 12Z run now shows no rain for the first half of the week, but brings in showers on Thursday with a deep layer of moisture moving in here from the south.
A peek into voodoo land suggests an upper air high building over Alabama during the Memorial Day weekend; if this happens that weekend will be very warm and muggy with only a few scattered, mainly afternoon showers. The better dynamics for rain will be north of Alabama, north of the upper high.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
I will have the next Weather Xtreme video posted by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow….
