Perfectly Spring

This is one of those times that the weather just doesn’t get any better. What a beautiful day yesterday after the wonderful overnight rain. And it looks like a slightly warmer version of yesterday for today as the perfect weather just rolls along. And I think with the addition of some high clouds we’ll probably see another one on Monday.

An upper ridge will keep the Southeast US and Alabama dry through much of the upcoming week. By mid-week moisture returns to some extent meaning that we could see a scattered shower or two, but I really think until Thursday, we stay dry. Thursday we see a short wave moving across the US with the southern extent coming just far enough south to give us a slightly better chance for showers.

Yesterday the GFS was showing a pretty good chance for rain on Friday and early Saturday and now that is gone replaced by weak ridging and some small embedded disturbances that could help to kick off a few showers. And it is that pattern that extends into the weekend keeping small chances for showers in the forecast.

The big event now appears to come in the late Monday and Tuesday time frame as a strong upper low develops over the Southern Rockies and kicks east on Monday. This is stepping over the line into voodoo country, so I won’t be sticking my neck way out, but it has the look of a severe weather event. This will be a feature I’m certain we’ll be keeping our eye on.

Further into voodoo country the GFS is showing a ridging pattern as we head into the first few days of May.

I had a great time visiting with the folks at the Jasper Home and Garden Show at the Scherer Auditorium in downtown Jasper. Thanks to the guys at WQJJ for inviting ABC 3340 to attend. I hope that you will have a chance to get outside today and enjoy some of this fine Spring weather. God bless.
