For the Rest of Tonight into Tomorrow
On the weather maps tonight, we find our cold front stretches from near Louisville to north of Nashville to Memphis to Natchioches, Louisiana to near Houston.
An upper level disturbance is pushing northeastward through Central Louisiana.
The main band of active storms extends from near the Mississippi coast to Columbus, Georgia to Athens.
Tornado watch number 165 continues until 9 p.m. for the foolowing counties in eastern South Central Alabama…Barbour… Bullock…Lee.. Macon… Montgomery…Pike… Russelll. South Alabama remains under a tornado watch until midnight.
Three tornado warnings this hour. Washington Co. in SW Alabama for a dangerous storm near Macintosh. One in Georgia and one in South Carolina.
A solid line of rain is just south of the cold front. This light to moderate rain is over the Tennessee Valley. Some moderate showers are over Central sections of the state over Blount, Jefferson, Walker, Tuscaloosa and Shelby Counties. A large area of moderate to heavy rain is over East Alabama.
Rainfall amounts have been mainly light, less than one half inch today. I have one of the better amounts so far, with 0.87 inches here in Trussville.
Back in Louisiana, a large area of moderate to heavy rain is moving across northeastern sections of the state into southwestern Mississippi. This activity will affect Central Alabama later tonight. While there oculd be thunder, we don’t think any of it will be severe. Still, it will be monitored.
Lows overnight will drop into the upper 50s.
After that disturbance passes, the front will finally push south, putting an end to the rain from the northwest during the morning hours. Rain will persist during the early morning hours tomorrow over southeastern sections of Central Alabama with cloudy skies over the remainder of the area. Winds will be out of the north behind the front. Clearing will work across the aea during the afternoon. Temperatures will slowly rise into the middle and upper 60s.
Sunday looks like a beautiful day with highs soaring to nearly 80 under mostly sunny skies.
