In all my years of weather work, today produced some of the highest number of warnings that I have ever seen.

At 5:30 pm, the line of stronf storms over in Extreme east Alabama extended from Dekalb and East Cherokee County southward to near Heflin and to near Ashland in Clay County. Extremely heavy rain was falling over East Cherokee and Cleburne County. These storms produced hail 3/4 inch in diameter at Roanoke.

Severe Thunderstorm Warnings continue until 5:45 for these counties:

Calhoun
Cherokee
Clay
Cleburne
Randolph

And a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 6 pm for…

Autauga
Elmore
Montgomery

To the west of Alabama, a broad zone of showers and thunderstorms extended from North Mississippi southwestward into North and Central Louisiana and finally into SE Texas.

All of that moving eastward.

Another damage report: At 2:40 this afternoon, numerous trees were uprooted in the Livingston area in West Alabama and several other locations around Sumter County. There was also wind damage to the Day’s Inn in the Livingston area.

Many sections of Alabama over one inch of rain today. We will try to post some representive amounts this evening.
