An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

Those illegal rain drops are gone, and the sun is shining over much of Alabama this afternoon. Temperatures are rising into the low 60s at most locations, and we are going to promise two really nice days ahead. Expect a good supply of sunshine tomorrow and Thursday, with a high in the upper 60s tomorrow, and low 70s on Thursday.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: The picture is still a bit muddy for Friday and Saturday. The 12Z GFS is coming in with a wet look for Friday, with a good chance of showers and thunderstorms. Then, a strong surface low will pass just north of here Saturday, dragging a cold front through the state with another chance of a shower or thunderstorm. This run hints the most widespread rain will come Friday and Friday night, with rather scattered storms on Saturday. Instability values look rather high on Saturday, and based on the projected wind fields will have to be watching for severe thunderstorms on Saturday, especially Saturday afternoon in areas east and south of Birmingham. The latest GFS shows a high of 76 degrees, with surface based CAPE values approaching 2,000 j/kg by midday.

Sunday looks like a beautiful day with ample sunshine and a high in the upper 60s.

NEXT WEEK: Looks like a potent severe weather threat shaping up Monday for eastern parts of Oklahoma and Texas, and that dynamic storm system will bring a threat of strong to severe storms into Alabama on Tuesday. We will need to get the Saturday system out of here before we can really nail down the details on this one. Then, after the storms, much colder air rolls into the state on Wednesday.

LONG RANGE: Looking into voodoo land, seems like we will have warm days, cold days, big storms, and even a few snowflakes along the way during the latter half of March. Once again, no dull moments around here this time of the year.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. An all new episode is available, which was recorded last night.

I will have the next Weather Xtreme video here posted by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow!
