Cold Start But Warming Trend Begins
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme Video is available in the player below and on iTunes.
We are definitely starting the day off chilly or cold – you choose – maybe even refreshing for some people. But the warming trend should begin in earnest today as those of us in the weather business try to catch our breathes from all the active weather we’ve seen recently.
Plenty of sun should help warm the atmosphere today along with the wind swinging around to the south. We should give 60 degrees a real threat today but I think most locations probably will get into the upper 50s.
A trough swings by tomorrow afternoon and evening. This could produce a scattered shower, but I really think the air will be too dry so the major impact will be some clouds. But those should zip by with clearing skies for Tuesday though the trough is likely to drop a few degrees off our high for Tuesday.
Mid-week promises a gorgeous day – maybe one of those days to plan lunch in the park! The next substantial weather system makes its debut on Thursday. An upper trough comes out of the Rockies on Thursday and deepens. It will drag a front into Louisiana where a surface low is expected to form late Thursday. The low tracks to the central section of North Carolina by Friday. This model run certainly has less of a severe weather look to it for us. The problem of how far north the instability can advect remains the problem. I do believe we could see a severe weather threat along the Gulf coast and over Florida, but it looks more like a rain event for us. We’ll be keeping an eye on how this one plays out.
The upper pattern becomes zonal into next weekend, so it looks seasonal for us for now.
The active pattern continues with another wet system on Tuesday, March 18th, and again around the 23rd. I’d like to complain about staying so busy, but we need the rain, so bring these system on!
Enjoyed the invitation by the Middle Alabama Corvette Club to join them at Barber Motorsports Park yesterday for their car show supporting Magic Moments and Children’s Hospital. While it was chilly, the wind was not too bad and the sun felt great. It was certainly bright with all those shiny cars. James Spann will be back in the saddle tomorrow morning with the next Weather Xtreme Video. Have a great upcoming week. God bless.
