One More Dry Day

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

NICE WARM-UP: Quite a spread as we look at temperatures across this part of Alabama this morning. We have a 16 degree spread from 34 at Gadsden to 50 at Birmingham… just a reminder this is not really a “one number” kind of place when it comes to forecasting low temperatures on a clear, calm night in the cool weather season. Everybody will warm up nicely today with a high close to 70 degrees along with a good supply of sunshine.

TOMORROW: The system that is producing blizzard conditions over East Colorado this morning will move our way, and while we won’t get any snow, it will bring a chance of showers tomorrow. The upper trough will actually be pretty vigorous, but with very little moisture to work with, rain amounts should be light. The 00Z NAM is printing only 0.12″ for Birmingham, and keeps the lifted index positive throughout the day despite the cold air aloft associated with the trough. The showers will exit the state quickly tomorrow evening as the wave moves to the east.

FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY: Looking very nice. Sunny pleasant days, fair cool nights. The high Friday will be in the mid 60s, followed by afternoon readings around 70 over the weekend. Morning lows early Saturday and Sunday should be mostly in the 40s, with 30s for the colder spots.

LSU AT ALABAMA: The weather looks wonderful for the biggest game in Tuscaloosa in many years. The sky will be clear Saturday night, with temperatures falling from near 68 at kickoff to around 60 by the final whistle. For the afternoon tailgaters, temperatures should rise into the low 70s in Tuscaloosa Saturday afternoon under a sunny sky.

NEXT WEEK: The GFS has backed off of the idea of a good rain/storm event at mid-week on Wednesday, but the ECMWF is still on board. See the Weather Xtreme video for long range ideas.

TROPICS: All remains quiet across the vast Atlantic basin, and it sure looks like it will be 2012 before we have another threat of tropical mischief around here.

STORM ALERT XTREME: Our annual storm spotter training is coming up on Saturday, November 12 at the BJCC, as part of the Alabama International Auto show. We begin at 9:00, and you will be done at 2:00. And, as a “thank you”, you will get free admission into the car show. There is no cost, and no need to register, just show up. Brian Peters will be the trainer, and we ask all existing and potential Skywatchers to attend. See you there!

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
