THIS AFTERNOON: Yet another gorgeous fall afternoon across Alabama as we kick off the month of November. Other than a few high cirrus clouds, the sky is bright and sunny with temperatures mostly in the 67-71 degree range. Matches the average high of 68 degrees for 11/1 very nicely.

We stay dry tomorrow, with ample sunshine and a high not too far from 70 degrees.

THURSDAY: A strong upper trough will roll through here Thursday, and if we had a decent supply of low level moisture, it could be a good setup for rain and strong storms. But, moisture will be severely lacking, so I am still thinking mainly a few periods of mostly light rain. I guess with the cold air aloft with the steep lapse rates, there could be some thunder in spots, but we don’t expect any severe weather threat. The NAM keeps the Lifted Index positive through the day, and prints only 0.09″ of rain for Birmingham. Won’t do much to really help the dry conditions we have in place.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Dry air returns Friday as the sky becomes mostly sunny. Saturday continues to look like a picture perfect day with a sunny sky and a high near 70. Sunday will be a partly sunny day, and the chance of rain Sunday evening looks so small we probably don’t need to mention it in the forecast thanks to a strong upper ridge nosing in here from the Gulf.

ALABAMA-LSU: I would say a slightly elevated interest in this game in Tuscaloosa Saturday night (sounds like the eyes of the world will be watching this one). For the tailgate parties, the weather will be incredibly nice with a sunny sky and a high in the low 70s. For the game, the sky will be clear, with about 68 at kickoff, falling to near 60 by the end of the game. Be sure and watch for my halftime weather update on the big screens right before the 3rd quarter begins. We have had some really nice weekends all football season…

NEXT WEEK: While a few showers could show up Tuesday in a strong WAA pattern (warm air advection), it looks like our next decent chance of showers and storms will come on Wednesday with a cold front passing through. Still, with the best dynamic lift to the north, severe weather doesn’t look to be an issue at this point, but hopefully it will bring some beneficial rain. See the Weather Xtreme Video for more long range ideas.
