RAIN WAY DOWN SOUTH: Showers and storms continue over far South Alabama this afternoon, generally south of a line from Chatom to Dothan. Strong to severe storms are in the Mobile area as I write this around 2:30, and a severe thunderstorm watch has been posted for parts of Southeast Louisiana and coastal Mississippi.
Up this way, the sky is mostly sunny, with temperatures climbing into the low to mid 80s. We will have one more warm day tomorrow, with a good supply of sunshine and a high in the mid 80s. Then, a dry cold front will pass through late tomorrow night, and promises to bring the coolest air so far this season to our state by the weekend, just as October arrives.
FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY: Friday’s high will drop into the mid to upper 70s with a fresh north breeze along with a sunny sky. Then, Saturday and Sunday will be simply delightful with highs only in the low 70s, and chilly mornings. The coolest morning should come early Sunday, with most places starting the day in the 45 to 49 degree range. Colder valleys will be closer to 40, and we might hear of a low of 38 or 39 at places like Valley Head. Fall weather fans will love it, and the weather will be superb for football.
The dry weather continues well into next week with only a slow warming trend.
TROPICS: Tropical Storm Philippe will most likely dissipate across the open Atlantic in a few days, and Ophelia is expected to become a hurricane as it moves north, well east of the U.S. There are no tropical systems threatening the U.S. for the next week or so.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
