The National Weather Service warns that there could be a severe weather threat tonight over Northwest Alabama as a cold front edges southeastward.

Showers and storms are ongoing this morning across Missouri and Arkansas into western Kentucky, Tennessee and northwestern Mississippi. These storms will intensify later today as moisture levels increase and the atmosphere heats up. There is a tornado threat for parts of Arkansas, western Tennessee and western Kentucky, including the Memphis area. The threat is not very large, but certainly worth mentioning.

As the storms move southeastward tonight, they will lose their tornado potential, but the threat of damaging winds and hail will spread across northern Mississippi and could get into extreme Northwest Alabama overnight, including northern Lamar, Marion, Franklin, Colbert and Lauderdale Counties.

More storms will develop Monday afternoon across the area, and some of those could be strong as well. Again, we don’t expect a tornado threat, but a couple of them could become severe.
