Low Approaching Montgomery

A large area of very heavy rain continues just northwest of a boundary that lies across Alabama from Cherokee to Shelby to Marengo Counties. Flooding is widespread now across Jefferson County. The rain is moving out of Tuscaloosa County toward Bibb and Shelby Counties.

The low is approaching Montgomery right now. It may turn more northward over the next few hours rounding the upper level system just to our west.

The pressure is now rising at Tuscaloosa…it dropped to 29.49 inches. Winds have been gusting to 35-45 mph in Tuscaloosa.

The barometer at Birmingham is now rising…29.48 was its lowest report. Winds have now shifted to northerly at Birmingham and have gusted to 36 mph recently.

These winds will be able to down trees with the saturated soils. Indeed there are numerous reports of downed trees across the area.

Numerous water rescues are underway in Birmingham and Hueytown.

UPDATE ON FLASH FLOOD WATCH
The flash flood watch has been canceled for Autauga, Barbour, Bullock, Chambers, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Montgomery, Perry, Pike, Randolph, Russell, Talladega and Tallapoosa.

It continues for Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Marion, Pickens, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, Walker and Winston Counties until 6 a.m.

Look at the intense storms over Georgia. Numerous tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect. There are reports of significant damage to homes near Woodstock Georgia, perhaps as many as 100 homes damaged or destroyed.
