Hot, and Going to Get Hotter

It is 91F at Birmingham at 1 p.m. and 93F at Tuscaloosa.  It is 90F at Anniston.

Afternoon highs will top out in the lower and middle 90s.

Heat index values are 100F-104F.

Storms were fairly numerous over South Central Alabama, from Pickens through Greene, Hale, Perry, Dallas, Autauga and into Montgomery Counties.    The activity has developed in the vicinity of an upper level trough.  Movement is slowly to the southeast.

Recently, showers have started forming over Fayette County in West Alabama.

Over North Central Alabama, the cumulus clouds are showing a little vertical growth.  Hopefully a few of them will develop into decent showers and thunderstorms to bring a little relief to the heat and deliver some needed rainfall.

HIgh pressure will build over Alabama in the days ahead, bringing more hot temperatures. Highs this week will flirt with the century mark all week long. Some minor reflief may come Friday and Saturday in the form of a trough over the eastern U.S. It could bring us enhanced shower/storm chances by the weekend, although temperatures will still probably run a little above average even then.
