DON A DUD: Tropical Storm Don will move inland on the Texas coast just south of Corpus Christi in the next hour or so. The storm endured persistent northerly winds aloft that kept it from intensifying (good news). But it also drew in lots of dry air, preventing it from developing a large shield of precipitation (bad news).

We had hoped that it might be a Godsend for drought infested South and Central Texas. The remnants of Don may bring storm total rainfalls of 2-4 inches across far South Texas, but the extent will be limited. Disappointing news for the Lone Star State.

CURRENTLY ON THE TEXAS COAST:
…Brownsville reporting cloudy skies…south wind at 7 mph…barometer 29.87. 0.73 inches of rain so far.
…Corpus Christi reporting E wind gusting to 30 mph…cloudy skies…barometer 29.83.
…Baffin Bay Automated Station did report a wind gust to 49 knots or 57 mph around 7 p.m.

EMILY: A decent tropical wave is in the middle of the Atlantic between the Lesser Antilles and Africa. It is moving west/northwest at 15-20 mph. This system has a pretty good chance to become a tropical depression over the next couple of days and a good shot to eventually become Tropical Storm and probably Hurricane Emily.

ELSEWHERE IN THE TROPICS: There is another tropical wave over the western Caribbean, but it is interacting with land and the chance of development is nearly nil.
