A 6:30 Update

| July 23, 2011 @ 6:26 pm | 3 Replies

Showers are moving northward  through the Birmingham area this afternoon.

The ones over western Jefferson County probably produced some 3/4 to 1 inch rainfall amounts around Hueytown.

The showers are pretty tall, with the ones near Hueytown and south of Lake View extending to over 30,000 feet in the atmosphere.

Not much lightning though. The moisture levels are very high across the state so the showers are more tropical in nature.

Elsewhere across Alabama, isolated showers dot Etowah, Cherokee, Calhoun and Cleburne Counties. Others are over Northwest Alabama, extending across Colbert, Franklin and Lawrence Counties and into parts of Marion, Lamar, Fayette and northern Walker Counties.

Heavier showers are over East Alabama, generally along I-85 between Montgomery and Auburn.
