An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

RIGHT NOW: Showers and storms are most active this afternoon to the south, over Perry, Dallas, and Autauga Counties around 4:00. Most of North Alabama has no showers in progress, meaning the NAM and the GFS had the right idea early this morning when it suggested a generally drier day. But, the storms to the south are moving northward, and we will have to maintain some risk of scattered showers and storms through tonight. Temperatures today are mostly in the low 90s, about where we should be this time of the year.

OUR WEEKEND: Not much reason to depart from the typical summer forecast tomorrow and Sunday. A mix of sun and clouds each day with scattered showers and storms, most active during the afternoon and evening hours. Highs will remain mostly in the low 90s. Slow moving storms will drop heavy amounts of rain, but rain distribution will be very uneven.

NEXT WEEK: Looks like showers and storms will become fewer in number over the latter half of next week as the heat ridge strengthens across Alabama, and heat levels should rise as well, with mid 90s likely, and possibly upper 90s in spots. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas.

TROPICS: Tropical storms Bret and Cindy won’t bother any land area; Bret is dissipating and Cindy is becoming extra-tropical in the North Atlantic this afternoon. The wave to watch is the one approaching the Leeward Islands; there is some chance of slow development in coming days as the system moves to the west. See the Weather Xtreme video for more details and tropical model output.

GULF COAST WEATHER: About 6 to 8 hours of sunshine each day through Monday with a few scattered showers and storms around. We note a waterspout was seen this morning over Wolf Bay at Orange Beach… scroll down for the images sent to us. Highs on the immediate coast will stay near 90, with sea water temperatures in the mid 80s.
