Numerous reports of sleet coming in from the area early this morning.

Places like Clay, Trussville, Remlap, downtown Gadsden, Irondale, Calera, Millport and Chalkville.

Moderate sleet in Mt. Olive and Ensley.

Heavy sleet in Cordova now, as well as Spain Park.

Sleet in Homewood with temperature dropping from 41F to 38F in a few minutes. Evaporational cooling at work.

Rain and sleet mixed in Pelham

39F with light rain and a little sleet in Alabaster.

Mix reported on Valleydale Road.

John Oldshue has 40/24 with light rian in Saginaw.

Mix in Vestavia with 36F.

Folks reporting on the blog that their dogs are becoming restless, perhaps extra sensitive to the weather, maybe hearing the sleet.

A heavy snow warning remains in effect for parts of Central Alabama. It includes Sumter, Greene, Hale, Marengo, Bibb, Perry, Dallas, Shelby, Chilton, Autauga, Lowndes, Montgomery, Elmore, Coosa, Talladega, Cleburne, Clay, Randolph, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Elmore, Lee, Macon, Bullock and Russell Counties.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Cullman, Blount, St. Clair, Etowah, Calhoun and Cherokee Counties.

The NWS Huntsville maintains a snow advisory for Cullman, Marshall, Jackson and DeKalb Counties.

A mix should fall overnight as temperatures fall. The action should get started in earnest around daybreak, with heavy snow setting up in a band across Central Alabama between Montgomery and Birmingham.

No reason to change our thinking. 1-2 inches of snow across the I-20 corridor, 2-4 inches of snow just south of I-20 to south of US-80 with a band of 3-6 inch amounts from Around Selma east to between Jemison to south of Montgomery then to Roanoke and Auburn.

Travel will become very difficult quickly later this morning and be a problem through Sunday morning.
