BLANKET OF MOIST AIR GOING NOWHERE: Pretty much the same story for Alabama this morning. Dewpoints remain in the 70s this morning as a very moist airmass hangs over Alabama. I checked the 00Z sounding from BMX last night, and the precipitatble water value was a whopping 1.94″. The bottom line is that we expect showers and storms to fire up again later today; they will be slow movers with potential for heavy rain, frequent lightning, and strong, gusty winds much like recent days. Before the storms develop most places will reach the mid 90s.

TOMORROW AND FRIDAY: The upper ridge weakens a bit as the center of the heat shifts a little to the northwest. This should result in a higher coverage of showers and storms on these two days, with heat levels backing down a bit. By Friday some places might fail to reach 90 due to clouds, showers, and storms. I expect to see some beneficial rain for many places.

OUR WEEKEND: We will maintain scattered to numerous showers and storms in the forecast on Saturday and Sunday, along with intervals of sunshine and a high near 90 both days.

NEXT WEEK: The ridge gets a little stronger early in the week, meaning heat levels will rise a bit, and the showers and storms will become fewer in number. Highs creep back into the mid 90s. Of course, all of these changes are pretty subtle; this is summer in Alabama after all.

TROPICS: Sure is quiet across the Atlantic basin. Watch the Weather Xtreme video… looks like dry air is covering much of the Atlantic coming off the deserts of Africa for now, helping to keep a lid on things for the time being.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Expect about 3-5 hours of sunshine today through Friday with scattered to numerous showers and storms. The weekend will be a little brighter with 5-7 hours of sun as the storms become more widely spaced. Highs will be in the upper 80s through Friday on the coast, with low 90s over the weekend.
