Watch Update

Looks like the watch won’t be issued until after midnight now…

NWS Birmingham alerted us at 9:40 (via our Instant Message conference) a winter storm watch was going up, most likely by 10:00, so we could include it on the 10:00 newscasts. Then, at 10:06 p.m. they reported the watch would be up by 10:30 or so.

Now… we just received this:

“since we missed you guys at the 10pm broadcast and the GFS bringing back the uncertainty with amounts (GFS really nailed the last one and the NAM was the outlier), decided to let the midnight crew handle the situation. Still expect watch to go up overnight.”

You can scroll down and see your snow potential forecast; the 00Z runs of the NAM and GFS are very consistent with the 18Z runs, and we see no need to change anything at this point. Both models suggest snow, and our solution is a blend between the two.
