IF it snows ! ! !
This is getting downright exciting. Having been born and raised in New England, I just love snow. I’m just hoping that if it does snow, it will snow during the day so we can see it.
Now onto the real reason for the post. If it does snow, here are a couple of snow facts derived from Birmingham climate data.
IF it does snow … it will be the first snow of more than a half inch since January 28, 2000 when 3 inches of snow was recorded at the Birmingham International Airport. The previous five snow events of a half inch or more at Birmingham were:
Jan. 28, 2000 – 3.0″
Dec. 29, 1997 – 1.6″
Feb. 2, 1996 – 0.9″
Feb. 6, 1995 – 0.8″
Mar. 13, 1993 – 10.3″
If it does snow … the ratio of snow to water will probably not be 10 to 1. That ratio is one that is often used as an estimate but the ratio is quite variable from event to event plus from location to location.
IF it does snow … I predict that ABC 3340 viewers and Blog readers will send in 24,783 pictures. I’m going to be responsible for about 3,000 of those since I’ll be out there just like everyone else with my digital camera snapping away.
IF it does snow … school systems are not going to have to be worried because any problems the snow might create should be gone by Tuesday when schools reopen after the Martin Luther King holiday. I am broad brushing that most school systems are closed based on the fact that Shelby County is, but I did not have the time to look up all the systems in Central Alabama.
IF it does snow … there will be 19,872 snow people built. In my day it was a snowman, but I’m trying to be politically correct (which is dang difficult to do in this day and time at my age).
IF it does snow … JB Elliott will have a hard time walking Miss Molly whose short legs will give her belly a chill rubbing the snow.
If you can’t tell, most of this post, at least after the first couple of items, is a lot of wild speculation. Let’s get the chant going – SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW …
