SUNNY DAYS, FAIR NIGHTS: We have a pretty simple forecast for the next few days thanks to dry air that will cover North Alabama. I guess there is always some risk of a shower on a hot summer afternoon in Alabama, but the chance of any one spot getting wet is so small we won’t mention it tomorrow and Friday. Looks like low 90s tomorrow, followed by mid 90s Friday. Humidity values will be relatively low for summer in Alabama making the heat a little more tolerable.

FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND: The GFS has trended drier. While we will see a slow increase in moisture, it looks like any afternoon showers and storms will be widely spaced over the holiday weekend, with highs mostly in the mid 90s. GFS MOS products look a little too hot considering the decent amount of rain we have seen in recent days, but a few upper 90s are certainly possible. Each day should feature a pretty decent amount of summer sunshine.

NEXT WEEK: The chance of scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and storms will return by mid-week with highs continuing in the 90s. Nothing really out of the ordinary for mid-summer in Alabama.

ARLENE GETS STRONGER: Tropical Storm Arlene is now packing sustained winds of 50 mph in the far Southwest Gulf of Mexico, but the system will move into the coast of Mexico late tonight before it has a chance to become a hurricane. The main threat will be locally heavy rain over North Mexico. The rest of the Atlantic basin is very quiet.

AIR QUALITY ALERT: A code orange air quality alert has been issued for tomorrow for the Birmingham metro area due to ground level ozone.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
