One Last Check…

Storms are slowly weakening over West Alabama. Just watched the storms over Marion, Lamar and Fayette Counties puff out 2 outflow boundaries as they collapse and start to weaken. The boundaries were moving southeast. Storms may briefly form and intensify in the Warrior River corridor between Jefferson and Walker Counties. One such cell was south of Cordova and Sumiton.

The outflow boundaries are a good thing. They will be the bookmarks that tomorrows storms will go back to as they start to form during the early afternoon. Hopefully they will help to bring some much needed rain to increasingly drought ridden Alabama.

Tuscaloosa is now 6.79 inches short for the year in rainfall. Birmingham is 3.36 inches short. Anniston is 5.41 short. The southern two thirds of the state is now now at least abnormally dry (roughly along and south of I-59) with drought conditions over the southern half of the state. That stands to only get worse in the next couple of weeks unless a northwesterly flow aloft can generate some decent thunderstorm complexes and send them our way.
