Hot, Dry Memorial Day Weekend

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today due to travel**

HEATING UP: After a delightful day with ample sunshine and a high in the mid 80s, heat and humidity levels will be on the rise over the holiday weekend. Look for a high around 90 tomorrow, followed by low 90s Sunday and Monday with mostly sunny days and fair nights. No worries about rain, thunderstorms, or severe weather as the long and historic 2011 spring tornado season has come to an end.

NEXT WEEK: We might make a run at mid 90s on Tuesday as a monster 5940 meter 500 mb high covers Alabama and much of the southern U.S. Then, the ridge weakens ever so slightly Wednesday and Thursday, which might open the door for some risk of isolated afternoon shower or storms. But, no widespread rain expected around here for at least the next seven days as the primary jet stream across North America moves well to the north.

ON THIS DATE IN 1973: Be sure and scroll down for J.B.’s article on the May 27, 1973 Greensboro/Brent tornado. I was on the scene in Brent soon after the tornado had touched down, and stayed for several days serving as a volunteer amateur radio operator. First time I had even experienced major tornado damage first hand, and quite a life changing experience for a high school kid interested in weather.

ONE MONTH AGO TODAY: The April 27, 2011 tornado event is still fresh on our mind. It was one month ago today, and tonight we will focus on the recovery on ABC 33/40 News at 5:00 and 6:00… I will be live in Pleasant Grove, with live shots from other parts of the state hit so hard by that tragic severe weather outbreak. Below is our live coverage of the first tornado of the afternoon that touched down in Cullman…
