Dying Storms To Our Northwest

SPLENDID SATURDAY: What a splendid day! Bright blue skies, cool morning temperatures and low humidities have made for a wonderful Saturday across Central Alabama. That is great news for all the cleanup activities that continue across our state. Some lows across the area this morning included 43F at Pinson, 47F at Tuscaloosa and Anniston and 50F at the Birmingham Airport. It was 41F in Fort Payne.

DYING STORMS TO OUR NORTHWEST: High pressure was straddling the Alabama/Georgia border between Birmingham and Atlanta early this afternoon. This and relatively dry air was zapping an area of thunderstorms that crossed the Mississippi River late this morning, but was weakening over northern Mississippi and western Tennessee at this hour. A few showers might survive the trip across Mississippi and reach places like the Quad Cities, Hamilton, Double Springs, Carbon Hill and maybe even Cullman early this afternoon. Some high clouds were overspreading the Tennessee Valley as well as Northwest Alabama. These clouds will affect places from the Birmingham area northward, but temperatures should still make the 80s in nearly all areas.

WARM ONE FOR MOM’S DAY: Mother’s Day should be mainly dry and warm across Central Alabama with plenty of sunshine and warm readings in the middle 80s. Humidity levels will start to creep up by tomorrow and we can’t rule out a shower or storm as a disturbance passes north of us.

90S NEXT WEEK: High pressure will build over Alabama early in the coming week, setting the stage for some warm temperatures. In fact, some spots will likely hit 90F between Monday and Thursday. Next rain chance comes Thursday night into Friday.
