Alabama as Midnight Approaches

| April 25, 2011 @ 11:53 pm | Reply

Line of severe thunderstorms marching eastward rapidly through West Tennessee and North Mississippi. It is a distinct “bow echo” which automaticlly means extremely high winds.

NWS has posted eight Severe Thunderstorm Warnings ahead of that line warning of wind gusts as high as 80 mph.

This is part of the same system that caused major ornadoes at several locations in Arkansas.

* Reports are that the town of Vilonia is mostly gone.
* Large tornadoes reported on the ground earlier north of Little Rock

WHAT DOES ALL OF THIS MEAN FOR ALABAMA?
* That intense bow echo (long curved line of intense thunderstorms) will reach Northwest Alabama maybe as early as 2 am. The line could reach Birmingham before daybreak. We hope it will be weaker by that time but we cannot be sure.

Look for some severe weather in Alabama tomorrow (Tuesday) But the most dangerous period will be Wednesday. A Moderate Risk will be in effect then. May be a very serious threat. Cannot totally rule out a few long-track devastating tornadoes.

Please stay abreast of the latest weather information.
