West Alabama Storm Reports

This is a time line of some damage reports across West Alabama this afternoon.

The damage was due to a gravity wave. They are fairly rare and they occur usually on the back side of a broad rain or thunderstorm area after it moves away.

THESE REPORTS (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE)

12:40pm…The EMA Office in Sulligent (Lamar County) clocked a wind gust to 50 mph. They reported widespread fallen trees causing downed power lines.

1:00pm…Numerous trees and power lines down in the Brilliant, Winfield, Guin area of Marion County.

1:08pm…Another report of numerous trees and power lines down in Lamar County.

2:05pm…High winds downed trees in the Speake area of Lawrence County in NW Alabama.

2:30pm…Several trees down at Hartselle in extreme North Alabama between Cullman and Decatur.

2:35pm…Trees down in and around Decatur. One business establishment lost its roof.

The NWS extended the caution about these high winds eastward to include Bibb, Blount, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Marengo, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa and Walker Counties. This is until 4:00 p.m., at least.
