Most Folks Lucky Tonight…Still a Way To Go…
Glad it wasn’t any worse in the Birmingham Metro…
The line weakened as it moved into Jefferson County.
Most of the damage appears to be across Walker County and Cullman County…as well as Lamar, Fayette and Blount.
Emergency responders are still very busy across Walker County with several reports of trees down.
Some reports…
…Hoover Fire working tree down blocking one lane of I-65 at US-31
…A tree was down blocking highway 150 just south of Shades Crest Road at 11:38 p.m.
…Multiple trees down in Cullman County…from county road 223 to county road 703.
…flooding reported on highway 31 from Cullman to Hanceville
Fortunately no injuries reported so far that we know of…
The Weather Service will let the warning expire as the storms run out of it to the east. They have issued a significant weather alert now in front of it for Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne and Etowah Counties.
Now looking west…
More storms continue tonight across Arkansas and Mississippi along a wavy cold front. These storms are going to continue moving east overnight and pose a flooding threat for Central Alabama. I think these storms will continue to push east southeast overnight and congeal into a line of rain and storms that will push through the I-20 corridor around sunrise.
There are a couple of warnings right now back in western and Central Mississippi. Storms have intensified in the past few minutes from near Columbus to west of Meridian. A new one was just issued for Scott County, which is a couple of counties west of Meridian. There could be a few severe thunderstorm warnings overnight in Alabama, so keep the Weatheradio on as you retire.
Flooding will be a problem in areas that receive heavy rainfall in a short period overnight, on top of what has already fallen…a flash flood watch remains in effect until noon later today. Several counties in West, Northwest and North Central Alabama are under flash flood warnings as well.
