Warning Expires, But Gusty Winds, Rain, Hail and Lightning Still a Problem
The Weather Service is choosing not to extend the severe thunderstorm warning further eastward.
Things have calmed just a bit. They did issue a significant weather alert for areas downstream of the thunderstorms.
Folks in eastern Shelby, southern Talladega, northern Chilton and Coosa Counties should be ready for gusty winds, very heavy rains, lightning and perhaps pea sized hail. Areas from Childersburg to Sylacauga down to Rockford will be affected over to Alex City and Goodwater.
Elsewhere across Central Alabama and Mississippi, storms were starting to intensify slowly south of Columbus back into the central part of the Magnolia State. These storms will affect West Alabama as they slide east and east southeast along the boundary between the rain cooled air to the north and unstable air to the south.
There is also a new severe storm west of Tupelo. If it holds together, and it appears that it will, this storm could affect Marion or Lamar County.
As the sun comes out later this morning to the south of the boundary, things could get quite unstable and we will see more storms with a heavy rain and hail threat. Damaging winds will also be a possibility. The SPC has much of Central Alabama in a 15% probability for severe hail and wind today. This equates to a slight risk outlook.
