Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Includes SW Jefferson, Shelby, as well as Eastern Tuscaloosa, Bibb and Chilton
The complex of severe thunderstorms over eastern Tuscaloosa County has turned a little more eastward along an instability boundary that rides over southwestern Jefferson and Shelby Counties.
The most dangerous part of the storms extended from Lake View to North Bibb to West Blocton to just west of Centreville. They have a history of producing 60-80 mph wind gusts and caused quite a bit of damage in the Tuscaloosa area. Winds gusted to 74 mph at our Skycam site atop the Tuscaloosa County Courthouse in downtown.
The storms will affect areas from McCalla to Riverchase to just south of Chelsea, as well as Alabaster, Helena, Calera, Columbiana and Montevallo as well as Jemison, Maplesville and Clanton.

The NWS has extended the severe thunderstorm watch until noon for: BMX extends Severe Thunderstorm Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Marengo, Marion, Perry, Pickens, Randolph, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, Walker and Winston Counties.
