New Severe Thunderstorm Warning into Winston, Walker, Fayette

| April 20, 2011 @ 4:26 am | Reply

A line of intense thunderstorms is pushing into Northwest Alabama at this early hour. It is approaching Moulton, Haleyville, Brilliant, Guin, Winfield and Sulligent in the next 15 minutes.

You can see the other communities that will be affected in the yellow warning polygon.

The storm is starting to bow out over Marion County, which is an indication of an increasing severe wind threat. Be in a safe place and out of mobile homes and cars as these storms approach.

They could also have some hail.

The lightning is very intense as well. Jason notes that the lightning show from the Haleyville Shycam is impressive.

The Weather Service in Huntsville also has warnings ahead of the line for their counties, including Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence and Limestone.

Back in Mississippi, these storms have produced several reports of hail from penny to nickle size. Half dollar sized hail was reported near Arlington TN. Trees were reported down in Hardin County, TN. 60 mph winds knocked out power in parts of Pontotoc MS.

There were several reports of tornadoes overnight, including reports from this line while it was back over Arkansas, but the tornado threat has diminished. The main threat will be damaging winds of 60 mph or greater and hail. Trees were reported down in Germantown TN, just east of Memphis, including one house where the occupant was trapped for a time.
