NO MORE COOL NIGHTS: The weather will feel more like June in coming days as a maritime tropical airmass moves up into Alabama from the South. Afternoon highs will rise into the low to mid 80s, with dewpoints up in the 60s. And, while we will mention a small risk of an afternoon shower or storm tomorrow, most communities will stay dry for the next 36 hours.

TO THE NORTHWEST: A significant outbreak of severe thunderstorms is likely tomorrow from Little Rock to Indianapolis, with the potential for a few strong tornadoes. The slight risk area is all the way from near Dallas to Buffalo, but this time the severe weather should remain northwest of Alabama.

WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY: A weakening surface front will drift down toward the Alabama/Tennessee border and become nearly stationary as it is parallel to the upper air winds. This will bring a chance of showers and storms on both days, but severe weather is not expected. The most widespread rain will over the Tennessee Valley of extreme North Alabama, with the activity more scattered down this way. And, South Alabama will likely be high and dry under the strong Gulf Coast upper ridge. Highs hold in the low to mid 80s.

FRIDAY AND THE EASTER WEEKEND: The upper ridge actually strengthens, so these three days should be generally warm and dry with highs holding in the 80s. Again, it will feel more like summer as the prime upper air winds remain north of Alabama.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The GFS generally keeps the ridge in place through the end of April, so it might be early May before we have another significant severe weather risk. Looks like temperatures will be above average, with rain below average for the rest of the month. See the Weather Xtreme video for more details and ideas on long range weather.
