THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BIRMINGHAM HAS EXTENDED THE

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR…
LAMAR COUNTY IN WEST CENTRAL ALABAMA…

* UNTIL 400 PM CDT

* AT 1249 PM CDT HEAVY RAINFALL CONTINUES TO SPREAD ACROSS LAMAR
COUNTY. RAINFALL OF ONE TO TWO INCHES WITH LOCALLY GREATER
AMOUNTS HAS ALREADY FALLEN. AN ADDITIONAL ONE TO TWO INCHES OF
RAIN IS POSSIBLE DURING THE NEXT HOUR OR SO. FLOODING IS LIKELY
TO OCCUR NEAR CREEKS AND STREAMS ON ROADS SUCH AS CUT BANK ROAD
AND SNAKE BRANCH ROAD…AND IN FLOOD PRONE AREAS SUCH AS HIGHWAY
18 AND HIGHWAY 17 IN VERNON.

* RUNOFF FROM THIS EXCESSIVE RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLASH FLOODING TO
OCCUR. SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE…
SULLIGENT…VERNON…BEAVERTON…BEDFORD…BLOOMING GROVE…
CREWS…DETROIT AND LAMAR COUNTY AIRPORT.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS
SAFELY.
