These pictures of the towering clouds were made from a balloon launched this past Saturday by the Olde Town Middle School Titans in Space amateur radio club. The picture was made as the balloon passed over the Naval Air Station located in Meridian, Mississippi. The balloon had burst and the payload package snapped the picture while floating to earth under a small parachute. Billy Richardson is the Amateur Radio operator that is leading the effort with support from MSU.

Look for more of these pictures this year as the high school science clubs in Alabama fire up their programs. The Pell City group was to have made a simultaneous launch Saturday but canceled it as a matter of prudence and safety when a local well known meteorologist informed us of likely severe weather. Thanks for the warning!”
