Early Beginnings to a Very Active Day

Already, very early on this Saturday morning, (as 2 am approaches) we see the beginning of a very bad day of weather for Alabama. We in the Weather Office face a long 24 hours ahead.

Thunderstorms were developing rapidly from East Oklahoma eastward across Arkansas into West Tennessee and North Mississippi. There is even some lightning as far east as Extreme Northwest Alabama. Several Severe Thunderstorm Warnings already for parts of Arkansas. Strong storms over North Central Mississippi will be in Northwest Alabama well before daybreak

This is going to be a very active 24 hours of bad weather across Alabama. The Storm Prediction Center has all of Alabama under a slight risk of severe weather. Don’t be surprised at all to see some of that area upgraded to an enhanced “moderate risk”

It is likely that we will have a number of Severe Thunderstorm Warnings today and and it seems near certain at least some Tornado Warnings.

This will be a day when you should keep well informed with the latest weather information.
