Georgia Wildfires
Looking at visible satellite pictures across the southeastern United States this morning, one thing stands out if you are looking closely. See those faint arcing plumes across Southeast Georgia? That is thick smoke from wildfires.
Here is some information from the NWS Jacksonville FL this morning….
A special weather statement: SMOKE FROM SEVERAL WILDFIRES IN SOUTHEAST GEORGIA WILL RESULT IN VISIBILITY RESTRICTIONS for Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Brantley, Charlton, Clinch, Coastal Camden, Coastal Glynn, Coffee, Echols, Inland Camden, Inland Glynn, Jeff Davis, Pierce, Ware and Wayne Counties till 12:00 PM EDT
…Park/Forest Srvc reports WILDFIRE…Arabia Bay wildfire has reached 4000 acres. The southeast boundary of the fire is now 1 mile from Homerville and threatening numerous structures. Evacuations are ongoing. US-441 remained closed early this morning north of Homerville as well as Georgia 122 east of US-441 to Cogdell Road.
…3 Ssw Broxton [Coffee Co, GA] Park/Forest Srvc reports WILDFIRE at — Moseley Road wildfire has reached an estimated 800 acres. Approximately 117 homes evacuated in the Greentree Lakes and Riverbend subdivisions. The fire crossed us-441 at about 6 pm Thursday.
…5 NE Bickley [Bacon Co, GA] Park/Forest Srvc reports WILDFIRE — Sessoms Community wildfire has reached an estimated 4,000 acres. Fire is 20 percent contained. CSX railroad is being impacted with trains delayed. No current evacuations. The Red Cross opened a shelter in Alma overnight.
…3 NE Screven [Wayne Co, GA] Park/Forest Srvc reports WILDFIRE — Screven wildfire near Bennett Road reached 125 acres. The fire is 100 percent contained but burning in the swamp. No evacuations reported.

Smoke from the two wildfires near Alma is arcing southward in the boundary layer winds, going directly over the city of Waycross GA. Alma GA reports completely clear skies with a north wind.
