Warm Late Winter Weather Ahead

FLIRTING WITH RECORDS: Sure looks like we will have highs well up in the 70s in coming days, and with record highs in the 76-82 degree range this time of the year, we have to figure we might establish one or two new record highs along the way through next week. I fully expect a few spots in West Alabama to touch 80 degrees this weekend.
STILL DRY: Again, we could mention a small risk of a shower Friday evening thanks to a weakening front approaching from the north, but the chance of any one spot getting wet is so small, we won’t mention it in the formal forecast. The bottom line is that we are looking at partly sunny, warm days and fair cool nights through next week.
Two weak fronts will approach the state next week… one on Monday, and another one on Thursday, but neither one shows much promise for bringing significant amounts of rain to the state. Maybe a few isolated showers, and probably nothing beyond that.
RAIN DEFICITS: Here are the 2011 rain deficiencies for the major reporting stations…
Birmingham 2.22″
Anniston 2.54″
Tuscaloosa 3.88″
Montgomery 2.35″
We clearly need rain, but it just isn’t going to happen anytime soon, and those deficiencies will just keep growing larger. But, March and April are the two wettest months of the year (the 60 day period), so hopefully we will get some goof spring rain events before the long hot summer arrives.
