SPRING PREVIEW CONTINUES: Not much overall change in the weather through the weekend. Partly to mostly sunny, mild afternoons and fair cool nights will continue. MOS products have been too cool in recent days…we figure most places will be around 70 today, with low to mid 70s tomorrow, Friday, and through the weekend. We are well above the average high of 59 for this time of the year, and we will be flirting with record highs on a number of days, most likely, this weekend and into early next week.
A peek at the climatic data shows our record highs are mostly in the 76-82 degree range for the next 7 days, and it will be very interesting to see if we can break one or two daily highs along the way.
WE NEED RAIN: But, we won’t be getting much for the next 7 days. I guess you could still mention some risk of a shower Friday evening with a weakening front, but the chance of any one spot getting wet is so small that we have dropped it from the forecast. Another weak front on Monday night squeeze out a shower somewhere, but nothing really beneficial. The warm ridge over the Gulf is the story and will keep us pretty much high and dry into the middle part of next week.
ANY MORE COLD AIR? No doubt we will have some sharp cold snaps in March and April. The usually aren’t too severe, and don’t last long, but don’t be planting gardens or putting away the winter clothes just yet. As I type this, the temperature at Northway, Alaska is 46 below zero, and at some point that air has to move. But, the medium range models show no cold air intrusions through the first few days of March. And, no major storm systems. See the Weather Xtreme video for more details.
