SPRING PREVIEW CONTINUES: A very tranquil weather pattern will stay in place through the weekend, with partly sunny, mild days and fair cool nights. Model guidance remains too cool… Tuscaloosa and Montgomery have reached the 70 degree mark again today, with most other spots in the mid to upper 60s. Look for a high not too far from 70 tomorrow, with low to mid 70s Thursday and Friday.

A weak front might kick off a shower Friday evening over North Alabama, but the chance of any one spot getting wet for now looks very small as the front will have basically no upper support.

THE WEEKEND: More great weather. We will nudge highs up into the low 70s Saturday and Sunday, with a good supply of sunshine both days through scattered clouds.

NEXT WEEK: The main band of active weather should remain a little west and north of Alabama. Moisture levels will be clearly on the rise, but the best dynamic support for wet weather stays to the west. We will probably go ahead and mention some risk of showers on a daily basis Monday through Wednesday, but again at the moment it doesn’t look like the rain will be especially widespread.

LONG RANGE: The 12Z GFS shows a strong negative tilt short wave around March 1 with some severe weather signatures involved, but this is all voodoo for now. And, still no sign of any really cold air for next 15 days. But remember, cold snaps in March and April are almost a given. We can’t ignore the brutally cold air building over Canada… we will keep a close watch on that when it begins the move south. Coldest in Alaska this morning was 45 below zero at Eagle. Fairbanks reported a low of -41.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
