Benign Weather For A While
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.
NICE AND QUIET: No snow, ice, severe storms, tornadoes, extreme hot, extreme cold, flooding, or tsunamis for a while. I know there are those that like constant action, but we have pretty much been in that mode for months, so the break is welcomed here.
STILL MILD: While many locations are down in the 30s early this morning, we will warm quickly into the 60s today with a good supply of sunshine. Model guidance has been running too cool lately; yesterday Birmingham soared to 71 degrees, making it the second warmest day so far in 2011 (the warmest was 73 on January 29). Looks like we will be in the 60s today and tomorrow, but low 70s seem likely Thursday and Friday. The weather will stay generally dry with a partly to mostly sunny sky, although we will continue to mention a small risk of a shower Friday afternoon with a weak front approaching from the north. There is very little upper support for that front.
THE WEEKEND: Another nice weekend ahead. Highs mostly in the 60s with a good supply of sunshine Saturday and Sunday. Considering the cool bias of MOS products, we might be close to 70 Sunday afternoon.
NEXT WEEK: Unfortunately the GFS and the ECMWF have backed off on the rain event we had hoped for Monday night and Tuesday of next week. Keep in mind our rain deficiency is now over two inches for the year (2.08″), so we could use a good wet-down. Both models now just show a few showers with a front Monday night, and dry conditions on Tuesday.
LONG RANGE: Again the GFS is suggesting our benign weather continues into early March, with above average temperatures and below average rain. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Had a great time visiting with Dallas/Fort Worth meteorologist Kristine Kahanek last night… the new episode is now available.
I will be doing a weather program this morning at West Elementary School in Vestavia… the next Weather Xtreme video will be posted here by 3:30 or this afternoon. Enjoy the day!
