RIGHT NOW: The sun is shining brightly north of a line from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham to Anniston… but to the south the clouds have been hanging on very stubbornly today over the central part of the state, and temperatures are generally colder than expected. In fact, many places are still below freezing at mid-afternoon. So, no doubt tonight will be cold. The clouds are eroding, and with a clear sky and some snow still around many places will visit the mid to upper teens early tomorrow.

WARMER TIMES: The long awaited warm-up begins tomorrow afternoon; with a sunny sky we reach the upper 40s. Then, expect low to mid 50s Saturday, and low 60s Sunday with a good supply of sunshine over the weekend as well.

MILD WEEK: We are looking at highs in the 60s all week Monday through Friday; in fact we might even flirt with the 70 degree mark Wednesday and Thursday as the flow of cold air is totally shut off for now. The weather stays dry through Wednesday, but a few isolated showers could show up Thursday and Friday thanks to a weakening cold front that will drift in here from the north and fizzle out.

LONG RANGE: No sign of any serious invasion of really cold air through the end of February, so temperatures should remain above average for the latter half of the month, and for now we not seeing any serious storm systems showing up on medium range modeling, although we will have some showery periods. Bottom line is that the weather looks nice and quiet for a while… a welcomed sight for us after a very cold and unsettled winter for Alabama and the Deep South.
