Severe Thunderstorm Warning for West Alabama

The greatest threat for damaging winds in this storm is now approaching Fayette in West Alabama.

The NWS in Birmingham has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Greene, Hale, Sumter and Marengo Counties until 4 p.m.

The NWS issues significant weather alerts for strong, but not severe storms. Here is one for West Alabama…

They look a lot more ferocious on the Mobile radar.

Winds aloft are very strong this afternoon, and all it takes i one decent convective updraft to get going to give a channel for those winds to come to the surface. This means winds of 50-60 mph and high are very possible. The spin in the atmosphere is very pronounced as well, so we can’t rule out an isolated tornado this afternoon as well.
