Roads Becoming Very Icy

| January 11, 2011 @ 6:35 pm | 12 Replies

Now getting many reports of icy roads from Birmingham north and east. Birmingham has dropped to freezing, and we expect a steady drop all night, with upper teens by daybreak.

Some problems reported recently…

*Bridges on 31 N from downtown to Fultondale are sheets of ice

*From Twitter: @spann coming home from the Airport just passed 5 cars that have slid off the road in Irondale. West bound lane

*Caller advised that Hwy 231 just south of Blountsville (Posey Mountain) was freezing over again. There is also a wreck with no injuries on I-65 on the bridge at the Blount/Cullman line.

*Trooper also reported that Hwy 231 from the Blount Co line to Blountsville is “solid sheet of ice”

Needless to say, be very aware that icy travel is a very real problem tonight where moisture lingers on both roads and bridges. Take it easy out there…
