Morning Issues

Scattered light to moderate showers moved into Central Alabama overnight, and as they did, the temperature in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa actually rose about 2-3 degrees. That is good news, but the bad news is that spots over north and east Alabama that have dipped into the upper 20s might not be able to recover quickly enough to prevent a few icy spots. No rain is falling where temperatures are cold enough for ice right now, and since the coverage of the showers is spotty at best, very few areas will be affected by any ice whatsoever.

If you walk out the door and see that rain is falling with lower 30s on the thermometer, just watch your step and be extra careful on the road this morning. The greatest chance of any slick spots would be over eastern St. Clair, northern Talladega, Clay, Cleburne, Calhoun, Randolph, Etowah, or Cherokee Counties.

Just to be clear on more time, this will not be a widespread issue, so there is no reason to worry about schools or businesses closing today; just be aware that a few slick spots could develop on some bridges or highways in eastern Alabama through about 7 AM. Temperatures will rise above freezing this morning, and we will actually hit the 40s and lower 50s with numerous showers throughout the day.
