THIS MORNING: Cold is the word… some 5:00 temperatures include 22 at Broomtown in Cherokee County in Northeast Alabama, 24 at Haleyville and Fort Payne, 25 at Valley Head, 26 at Anniston, and 27 at Concord and Coker. For some, this is the coldest morning so far this season.
TODAY/TOMORROW: Lots of sunshine, with a high in the mid 50s today, and close to 60 tomorrow. The low tomorrow morning will be in the low to mid 30s.
OUR WEEKEND: A clipper type system will bring some clouds Saturday, and might squeeze out a few sprinkles Saturday afternoon or Saturday evening, mainly over the northern third of the state where the forcing is better. But, moisture is very limited and most communities won’t get enough rain to measure. We will reach the low 60s Saturday, but in the wake of the clipper cold air returns Sunday, when we won’t get out of the 40s with a chilly north wind.
SUPER SIX: Great football weather for the state high school football championship games in Auburn tomorrow and Friday. Afternoon temperatures will be generally in the 50s, while the night games will be played with temperatures falling through the 40s. The sky will be clear and there is no chance of rain.
SEC CHAMPIONSHIP: As always, we can promise no rain and light wind for the game, which is this Saturday in Atlanta pitting Auburn against South Carolina. But, outside the Georgia Dome, clouds will increase during the day in Atlanta Saturday with a high around 60. A few sprinkles are possible Saturday night, but nothing really significant. Sunday will be dry and colder with a high in the 40s.
BLAST OF ARCTIC AIR NEXT WEEK: Models are trending colder, and we will need to adjust our temperatures down as some really cold air lows into the eastern half of the nation. Monday’s high will be in the mid 40s, and it now looks like many North Alabama towns won’t make it out of the 30s with an icy north wind. Then, by daybreak Wednesday, lows in the 18-23 degree range are likely. Beyond that, we moderate only slowly Thursday and Friday. Models agree that the week will be dry with no winter weather issues… but now is the time to get ready for a hard freeze.
THE LAND OF VOODOO: Watch the Weather Xtreme video… looks like temperatures will remain generally below average through mid-December with a couple of potential storm systems to deal with.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.

I will be stopping by our Habitat For Humanity home sponsored by ABC 33/40 this morning in Wylam… this house will be compete by December 16, when the keys are turned over to the homeowner. I am blown away at how quickly these projects get done by volunteers. After that it is a weather program at Cherokee Bend Elementary in Mountain Brook… look for the next Weather Xtreme video here by 3:30 this afternoon. Enjoy the day!
