Still Wet Through Tomorrow Morning

EXCELLENT SOAKING: Scroll down for some rain reports from J.B… but this is just what we have been needing. A slow, steady, soaking rain. Some Central Alabama communities have had rain now for 10 hours in a row, and the rain will continue at times tonight as moist air overruns cooler air near the surface.
TO THE SOUTH: A few tornado warnings have been issued by the NWS in Mobile for counties near the surface front over Southeast Alabama. The front is very easy to identify; most places up this way are only in the low 50s with rain, while south of the front Dothan is at 72 degrees with a few peeks of sun. Any severe weather before midnight will be confined to the far southern counties of Alabama.
TOMORROW: A deepening surface low will move from near Columbus, MS to Chattanooga, TN tomorrow morning, and is supported by a strong disturbance aloft. Conditions will become breezy, and we might have a few elevated thunderstorms in the 3:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. time frame. There will be a decent amount of shear, but basically no surface based instability over the northern half of the state. It looks like any severe weather tomorrow morning will be south of U.S. 80 (Demopolis to Selma to Montgomery to Opelika), and even down there it is a marginal threat. But, a tornado warning or two is certainly possible over South Alabama tomorrow morning.
Rain and storms will taper off by midday as drier air moves into the state.
WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY: Wednesday looks like a dry and pleasant day with a good supply of sunshine and a high in the low to mid 60s. Then, on Friday, another upper trough passes through accompanied by a surface front. This time it looks like there won’t be any moisture to work with, and any showers on the front should be north of here over Tennessee. It will be cooler Thursday with a high in the upper 50s with a mix of sun and clouds.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Alabama has a Thursday night special this week; the Tide hosts Georgia State at Bryant-Denny Stadium at 6:30. The sky will be clear, with temperatures falling into the 40s during the game, so a warm jacket is on order. No chance of rain.
FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Delightful fall weather, with sunny pleasant days and clear cold nights. We will see lows in the 30s and highs in the 60s; the coldest morning should be early Friday with temperatures in the 31 to 37 degree range. Another great weekend for high school playoff football, and the college games.
THANKSGIVING WEEK: Watch the Weather Xtreme video for a day by day breakdown… but it looks like a few days of showery weather at mid-week, with showers possibly lasting into Thanksgiving Day based on the 12Z run of the GFS. For Black Friday and the Iron Bowl, the weather could turn colder… I sure get the idea a shallow layer of cold air will try and creep into North Alabama despite upper air winds that won’t allow it to drop south in full force. No way now to know the exact weather next week… stay tuned.
DEEPER INTO VOODOO LAND: The NAO spikes strongly negative as December arrives, and the 12Z GFS shows a big cold shot right at the end of the month. Again, see the Weather Xtreme video for details.
