9:40 am in Alabama–Wet/Cool

| November 15, 2010 @ 7:10 am | 4 Replies

Great news for most of Alabama where rain is much needed. A soaking rain ahead for the next 24 hours for most areas.

940 AM RADAR UPDATE
It was raining over about 75 to 80 percent of Alabama by 9:40 this morning. The exception, the extreme Southeast. Much of the rain was moderate, even a few areas of heavy. Lightning detection equipment indicated almost no lightning. Reminds me of a winter day with a steady all-day rain. Love those.

A FEW ADDITIONAL REPORTS AS OF MID-MORNING
0.96 Midtown Atlanta (8am)
0.39 Hoover
0.44 McCalla

Here are some early amounts through 6 o’clock this morning. By this same time tomorrow morning, the totals will be much higher:

0.09 Guntersville
0.07 Decatur
0.05 Huntsville

The “real rain” has not reached the Tennessee Valley yet.

OTHERS
0.26 Anniston
0.48 Shelby County Airport
0.39 Mobile Regional Airport
0.22 Tuscaloosa
0.85 Selma

By tomorrow morning, these amounts will be high enough to throw a street party to celebrate.

MISSISSIPPI
0.98 Jackson
0.81 Meridian
0.70 Vicksburg (and still reporting heavy rain

All of this is an indication of what is yet to come for Alabama. By tomorrow morning, and maybe this evening, we will post a comprehensive list of Alabama amounts including the reports from numerous ABC 33/40 Skywatchers and reports from official stations.
I love a cool, rainy day.
